This study explores the translation of football commentary from a functional perspective, focusing on its linguistic and pragmatic dimensions. Football commentary represents a highly dynamic and spontaneous form of discourse characterized by evaluative language, emotional intensity, and real-time constraints. The research aims to identify the key linguistic features of football commentary and examine how these features are transferred across languages while maintaining pragmatic equivalence. Using a comparative discourse-analytical method, the study analyzes English and Uzbek football commentaries to determine translation strategies such as modulation, adaptation, and equivalence. The findings reveal that functional adequacy often outweighs formal equivalence, and pragmatic factors such as audience expectations and cultural context play a crucial role in translation.
