Abstract

The development of Web 2.0 technologies has played a crucial role in democratizing translation by enabling wider participation in translation activities beyond traditional professional boundaries. Through interactive platforms such as crowdsourcing websites, wikis, social media, and cloud-based computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, individuals from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds can now contribute to the creation and dissemination of translated content. This article examines how Web 2.0 tools have transformed translation practices by lowering entry barriers, fostering collaboration, and reshaping notions of expertise and authority in translation. While the democratization of translation has increased accessibility and linguistic diversity, it has also raised concerns regarding translation quality, professional standards, and ethical responsibility. The article argues that understanding both the opportunities and challenges of Web 2.0–driven translation is essential for navigating contemporary translation landscapes.
