PHYSICAL EDUCATION, SPORT, AND PLAY AS AGENTS OF SOCIALIZATION

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of physical education, sport, and play activities on students’ socialization processes. In the context of contemporary society, which is rapidly transforming due to technological advancement, a decline in young people’s levels of socialization has emerged as a significant and pressing issue. Considering the universal, integrative, and community-oriented characteristics of sport, it can be identified as one of the most important means of fostering socialization. The findings indicate that physical education and sport activities not only support individuals’ personal development by meeting their psychological and physical needs but also play a crucial role in developing the skills and competencies required for adaptation to the demands of social life. In conclusion, physical education and sport can be emphasized as powerful agents of socialization that effectively contribute to positive changes in individual behavior. Therefore, it is considered appropriate to incorporate planning and practical measures into educational curricula aimed at embedding the understanding that physical education and sport contribute not only to academic outcomes but also significantly to students’ socialization, among all stakeholders of the educational process, including school administrators, teachers, parents, and students.
