DEVELOPING INTERCULTURAL COMPETENCE IN STUDENTS THROUGH ENGLISH LITERATURE
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article examines the role of English literature in developing students’ intercultural competence in the process of foreign language education. The study highlights the linguistic and cultural value of literary texts and their effectiveness in fostering students’ awareness of cultural diversity, values, traditions, and social norms of English-speaking countries. Through the analysis of selected literary works, the article demonstrates how literature-based instruction contributes to the development of intercultural communication skills, critical thinking, and cultural sensitivity. Special attention is paid to the teacher’s role in guiding students toward comparative and reflective analysis of cultural elements presented in literary texts. The findings suggest that integrating English literature into language teaching enhances students’ communicative competence and prepares them for effective intercultural interaction.
