THE INTERPRETATION OF RELIGIOUS LEXICS IN THE UZBEK TRANSLATION OF DAN BROWN’S “THE DA VINCI CODE”
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article analyzes the features of religiously marked vocabulary in the Uzbek translation of Dan Brown's novel "The Da Vinci Code". The novel, known for its intricate blending of religious symbols, historical mysteries, and theological debates, challenges translators to accurately convey its rich religious vocabulary while maintaining the novel’s original tone and intrigue. The research focuses on how key religious terms, phrases, and concepts are adapted for Uzbek-speaking audiences, considering both linguistic and cultural differences. Special attention is given to the translation choices made for terms like The Holy Grail, Opus Dei, and The Vatican, as well as the novel's treatment of key figures such as Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene. The analysis examines the impact of the translation strategies used, for example, on the Uzbek interpretation of words and phrases given in Latin.
