This article examines Galen of Pergamon's philosophical and anthropological teachings on the personality of the physician. It analyzes his famous thesis, "The best physician is also a philosopher," and examines the epistemological, ethical, and methodological requirements the ancient thinker placed on healers. Particular attention is paid to the influence of Galen's legacy on the development of the foundations of modern bioethics, personalized medicine, and clinical thinking.
