Abstract

Aesculus hippocastanum (Hippocastanaceae) represents a prolific source of polyhydroxylated triterpenoid saponins, specifically the beta-aescin isomers. While its clinical efficacy in mitigating venous hypertension is well-documented, emerging paradigms highlight its role as a cytotoxic agent in oncological settings and a matricellular modulator in tissue repair.

This review synthesizes the diverse pharmacological intersections of aescin across distinct biological systems.
