Mikhail Lermontov’s lyric poetry is characterized by a profound preoccupation with loneliness as a central motif. This article offers a scholarly analysis of how Lermontov artistically interprets the theme of loneliness across several of his key lyric poems. We examine how his works convey the emotional turmoil, philosophical reflections, and existential questions associated with solitude through vivid imagery, emotive language, and innovative poetic structure. The study highlights that Lermontov’s motif of loneliness is inseparably linked to his rebellious Romantic spirit and his quest to understand his place in the world. Ultimately, Lermontov’s poetic portrayals of solitude not only articulate his own emotional isolation and existential angst, but also resonate with universal human experiences of loneliness in the Romantic era and beyond.
