Abstract

The rehabilitation of completely edentulous patients remains a profound challenge in contemporary prosthodontics, primarily due to the complex biomechanical requirements of retention, stability, and support. This study investigates the clinical significance and efficacy of taking functional impressions using custom trays compared to standard anatomical impressions in the fabrication of complete removable dentures. A comprehensive clinical trial was conducted at the clinical base of the Department of Orthopedic Dentistry and Orthodontics at Andijan State Medical Institute, involving sixty-three completely edentulous patients. The participants were divided into a main group, which received dentures fabricated via functional impressions with custom trays, and a control group, which received dentures fabricated using standard trays. Clinical outcomes were meticulously evaluated based on denture retention, stability, mucosal health, masticatory efficiency, and overall patient satisfaction. The results demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in the main group across all evaluated parameters. Patients in the functional impression group exhibited superior denture retention and required significantly fewer post-insertion adjustments due to mucosal ulcerations. Furthermore, their self-reported satisfaction and masticatory performance were markedly higher. The findings robustly conclude that the utilization of custom trays for functional border molding and secondary impressions is an indispensable clinical procedure that substantially enhances the functional and anatomical integration of complete dentures, thereby significantly improving the quality of life for edentulous individuals.
