Abstract

This study develops an innovative technology for the production of flame retardant polymer materials from recycled polyethylene containing environmentally friendly additives. The study investigated the use of various flame retardants, such as aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide and swelling systems, in different weight concentrations. Mechanical testing, thermogravimetric analysis and cone calorimetry evaluated the properties and fire resistance of the material. Scanning electron microscopy revealed a uniform distribution of flame retardants, which formed protective carbon layers during combustion. The technology successfully converts plastic waste into valuable fire retardant materials for construction, packaging and automotive applications, contributing to the principles of a circular economy and environmental sustainability.
