Abstract

The global shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources represents one of the most significant transformations of the modern era. While the technological, economic, and environmental drivers of this transition are well studied, its legal dimensions are equally vital and increasingly complex. Laws and policies shape the speed, scale, and fairness of the renewable energy transition by regulating investment, ensuring access, and aligning national priorities with international commitments. This article explores the legal frameworks that underpin renewable energy development at the global, regional, and national levels. It examines the role of international agreements, national strategies, and emerging legal challenges, such as equity, financing, and technology transfer. While the pathways vary across regions, a common theme emerges: law is not only a regulatory instrument but also a catalyst for innovation, cooperation, and sustainability. The article concludes by highlighting the importance of harmonized legal approaches and future opportunities to strengthen global governance of renewable energy.
