Manipulative influence is a complex of socio-psychological, cultural and information technologies aimed at directly or indirectly influencing the consciousness, emotions and behavior of an individual, social group or the general public, often used covertly, but in some cases openly. Its essence is that manipulation limits the subject's ability to fully and objectively assess reality, directs the process of independent thinking and reduces the ability to make free decisions. Through this, certain ideas, views, values or behavioral models acquire a dominant position in the public consciousness.
