This article discusses the biological and ecological characteristics of beneficial insects, their importance in agriculture, their habitat and role in natural control against natural enemies. Scientific information on pollinators (e.g. bees), natural enemies against biopests (parasites and predators), and their role in the food chain is analyzed. Measures for the protection and increase of their populations, as well as threats arising from human activities, are also considered.
