PostgreSQL is one of the most powerful open-source relational database management systems widely used in enterprise and high-performance applications. Efficient data retrieval is essential for modern systems that handle millions of records. Indexing is a fundamental technique that improves database performance by reducing query execution time. This article provides a detailed analysis of PostgreSQL indexing technology, including index types, internal mechanisms, query optimization, and performance improvements. Statistical comparisons between indexed and non-indexed queries are presented to demonstrate performance gains. The study also discusses best practices, implementation strategies, and optimization techniques for large-scale database systems.
