SEMANTIC AND SYMBOLIC FUNCTIONS OF PROPER NAMES IN LITERARY DISCOURSE
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article explores the semantic and symbolic functions of proper names in literary discourse, focusing on their role in meaning construction and artistic expression. Proper names are examined as linguistically and stylistically motivated units that contribute to character depiction, narrative structure, and textual cohesion. Using a functional-semantic and contextual approach, the study analyzes how proper names acquire connotative and symbolic meanings in literary contexts. The findings demonstrate that proper names extend beyond their nominative function and operate as expressive devices reflecting cultural, social, and ideological dimensions of literary texts.
