FRACTURES OF THE LOWER THORACIC AND LUMBAR SPINE
Main Article Content
Abstract
Fractures of the lower thoracic and lumbar spine represent a significant clinical challenge due to their association with spinal instability and potential neurological deficits. These injuries most commonly result from high-energy trauma, such as traffic accidents and falls from height. The thoracolumbar junction (T11–L2) is particularly vulnerable because of the biomechanical transition between the rigid thoracic spine and the more mobile lumbar spine. This article reviews the epidemiology, classification, mechanisms of injury, diagnostic approaches, treatment strategies, and outcomes of fractures involving the lower thoracic and lumbar spine.
