Ecology today represents a complex, integrated set of sciences. Chemists must have a clear understanding of the relationship between modern, technologically advanced society and the environment, the functioning of the biosphere under increasing anthropogenic pressure, methods for analyzing natural objects, environmental quality control, and the place of chemistry in environmental science.
