Abstract

In English as a Second Language (ESL) and English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms, teachers frequently work with learners who have limited linguistic resources. In such contexts, effective communication cannot rely solely on verbal instruction. Body language, as a key component of nonverbal communication, plays an important role in supporting language learners general understanding, managing classroom interaction with EFL learners, and creating both positive and effective conditions for language learning. This article examines the application of body language for ESL/EFL teachers by exploring its pedagogical role, key nonverbal components, and practical classroom uses. In addition, common challenges, cultural considerations, and strategies for improving teachers’ nonverbal competence are also discussed. The findings highlight that conscious and culturally sensitive use of body language enhances learner engagement, decreases anxiety, and make its contribution to more effective language teaching.
