Abstract

This study examines the literary function of the image of Mirzo Ulugbek in the process of national self-identification within modern Uzbek literature. The analysis highlights how Ulugbek’s historical persona—as an astronomer, ruler, and humanist—has been reinterpreted by writers to strengthen cultural memory, intellectual heritage, and collective identity. Through various literary portrayals, Ulugbek becomes a symbolic figure representing enlightenment, scientific rationality, and moral integrity. His image serves as a bridge between the Timurid scholarly tradition and contemporary nation-building narratives, contributing significantly to the formation of a modern Uzbek national consciousness.
