Abstract

This article examines the characterization of the principal protagonists—primarily the heroines—of Jane Austen’s major novels. Austen’s narrative strategies, social critique, and psychological realism are analyzed to demonstrate how her “heroes” function as agents of moral judgment, social negotiation, and personal development within the constraints of Regency-era society. The study focuses on the central figures from Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Emma, Northanger Abbey, and Persuasion.
