Main Article Content
Abstract
This study delves into the thematic exploration of character and identity in the literary corpus of Ian McEwan, a prominent figure in contemporary British literature. Through a close examination of selected novels and short stories, the research elucidates how McEwan intricately depicts the complexities of human nature and the formation of identity amidst diverse challenges and circumstances. Central to the analysis are McEwan's portrayal of protagonists who grapple with moral dilemmas, personal conflicts, and external pressures, all of which contribute to shaping their identities and determining their life trajectories. By scrutinizing the psychological depth of McEwan's characters and his adept narrative techniques, this study aims to illuminate the profound insights offered by the author regarding the fluidity of identity and the construction of selfhood. Ultimately, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of McEwan's oeuvre and its thematic preoccupations, while also shedding light on broader inquiries into the nature of character and identity in literature.
