This article examines how investments in human capital affect national economic competitiveness. The introduction reviews the evolution of human capital, measurement issues, and investment directions. The methods section outlines a framework for standardizing components of human capital (education, health, digital skills, lifelong learning) and linking them to competitiveness indicators. Results synthesize the literature and practical experiences, showing that human capital investments strengthen competitiveness through productivity gains, innovation capacity, technology adoption, and export sophistication. The discussion emphasizes reform sequencing, alignment across the education–innovation–market infrastructure nexus, matching skills supply with firms’ demand, and results-oriented governance and evaluation. The conclusion offers recommendations to integrate early childhood development, TVET and STEM, health, and corporate reskilling with data-driven monitoring.
