Abstract

Acute diarrhea remains one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality among children worldwide. This article analyzes in detail the differential diagnosis of various infectious diseases accompanied by acute diarrhea syndrome in pediatric patients. The main focus is placed on the differences in clinical manifestations of viral and bacterial diarrheas which allows physicians to correctly choose empirical treatment. During the study a complex of clinical signs was analyzed including disease onset, body temperature indicators, vomiting frequency and the degree of dehydration. The results indicate that viral infections are dominated by dehydration and vomiting whereas bacterial infections more frequently present with intoxication and pathological impurities such as blood in the stool. These comparative data are essential for preventing the unnecessary use of antibiotics and ensuring timely rehydration measures in accordance with World Health Organization protocols.
