Objective:
To improve the outcomes of surgical treatment in children with pulmonary echinococcosis through the application of new technologies.
Materials and Methods:
During the period from 2005 to 2024, 72 children with pulmonary echinococcosis underwent surgical treatment at the Republican Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Emergency Medical Care. The main diagnostic methods for pulmonary echinococcosis included chest radiography, ultrasound examination, serological tests for echinococcosis (ELISA), and multislice computed tomography (MSCT) of the chest.
Results:
The analysis of the results showed that echinococcal cysts larger than 50 mm in diameter, as well as recurrent cysts and those complicated by suppuration, are considered relative contraindications for video-assisted thoracoscopic pulmonary echinococcectomy. In the treatment of pulmonary echinococcosis, endovideosurgical echinococcectomy is and should remain the preferred surgical approach.
