The article examines the technology of producing Kokand paper from raw cotton as practiced in the papermaking tradition of the Kokand Khanate in the nineteenth century. The morphological and physical-mechanical properties of cotton fibers are analyzed, along with the main technological stages, including alkaline treatment, manual fiber beating, sheet formation on a frame, and pressing. The study is based on historical sources and experimental reconstruction of the traditional technique. The results show that the length and natural elasticity of raw cotton fibers ensure the thinness, strength, and excellent ink retention properties of Kokand paper.
